John Marshall, Owner & Inspector

Growing up in Marin as the son of an architect and grandson of a plumber, John has been surrounded by construction his entire life. Starting his construction career as a general laborer (starting the summer he turned 13), he eventually became a journeyman carpenter in his early 20's and has done almost all other aspects of construction from excavation to finish punch lists on multi-million dollar projects. After going back to school and receiving a degree in Business Management from Sonoma State in 1989, John founded Marshall Construction Company. The small construction company based out of Napa earned a reputation for offering high-quality new construction and remodeling services. Marshall Construction earned several awards for restoration work on historic buildings in Napa, Alameda, and Oakland.

In 1999, it was time for a career change and John decided to pursue a career in home inspection. In 2000, John earned his International Code Council - International Conference of Building Officials (ICC/ICBO) Building Inspector Certification by passing an intensive series of tests demonstrating his construction and building code knowledge. ICC/ICBO is the most prestigious certification in the building industry and the same certification that almost all local, state, and federal building inspectors must have. He began working as a building inspector alongside an icon in the industry, Roger Robinson, one of the pioneers of the home inspection industry in California. John was mentored and worked along side other seasoned certified building inspectors performing both commercial and residential inspections.

Late in 2001, John launched North Bay Inspection and was able to earn a loyal client base by offering high-quality inspections and reports at a fair price. At the request of his clients, John has also performed additional services by acting as an expert witness for construction related litigation, performing construction consultation, and preparing construction related due diligence for investors. Today, John continues to grow his business by finding ways to better serve his clients.

When John is not crawling under houses, standing on roofs, or writing reports, he loves traveling, boating, camping, hiking, and most of all, spending time with his wife and family.
